June 30th, 1862

My darling wife, and daughter

You see by the above address this letter is intended for both you and Eules. Well I wrote a letter on Sat. to my darlings, but as this is the last five cent letter I can send, concluding to write to my pets. And I expect to start in a few minutes for St. Marys where the most of my Company is stationed. So you need not expect to hear from me oftener than once a week, if that often. You see I have to send my letters all the way up here to have them mailed and also have to send all the way to get yours. Now I know you won't think any the less of me for not writing for I intend doing so every chance I get of sending a letter.

I am in hopes I will be back about the first of August, and if I can get a furlough, I will try and go up to see you and Eules, but darling don't look ahead to that time with any degree of certainly for I assure it is exceedingly doubtful whether that furlough can be obtained or not. I was thinking if you were willing to return any time in August (and I could get a furlough to go and see you), that I would try and get Jasper Highsmith [1] to board you for a month or two. Mrs. Gary Lang will be there for company, so Gary told me if Jasper would board her. He has everything fixed up very nicely at his house and I think you could spend a month or so there very pleasantly. You see I would spend every night with you when not professionally engaged which would not be more than one night in a week. Now I think Eules is getting big enough to behave herself at night and I will be with you to help worry with her. I think the idea a capitol one, what do you two think of it? You must let me know in your next what you will do. I expect to go to Savannah in a week or two to stand my ……..
